Forgiving Waters

By Kenneth L. Capps

In a Texas time when cattle were more common than houses and racial division was both expected and tolerated, Beauregard Lee Kelso learned at an early age some painful truths about the breaking and mending of souls. Now decades later in his seventies, this old cowboy struggles with decisions of his past that won’t allow him peace of mind.

Through the unlikely messengers of two young trespassers—one white and one black—looking to fish in one of the many pasture watering holes, the issues of race are softened by the sheer beauty of nature and friendship. Bo eventually hires Kevin and Leonard as summer farmhands, offering mentorship and freedom the boys had not before known.

And through their charming exchange of goodwill, Bo finds his peace by recognizing something he’d always known: the path to forgiveness starts with an honest look at the limitations and the fears within oneself.

Born in Houston, Texas, in 1959, Kenneth L. Capps joined the US Marine Corps in 1979 for a thirteen-year career. He started a tree removal company in 1993. In 2009, Ken won honorable mention in nonfiction in the New Bern Literary Symposium in North Carolina. The next year, in 2010, he placed second in fiction in the same contest. Ken’s writing career started at 50 years of age in what he considers to be the best years of his life. The only reason he entered the contests was to prove that he possessed the talent to write and verify what his friends were telling him. Forgiving Waters is Ken’s first (but not last) published novel.

Rude Awakenings
By Keith M. Donaldson

Whatever your political bent—firmly entrenched in an existing party or searching for something new—Rude Awakenings will get you thinking . . . what if?

This latest novel by Keith M. Donaldson describes a country in upheaval, desperate for

new ideas. In a nation fleeced by selfish politicians and bereft of pride and purpose, the American voters turn to a new party for presidential representation: Mike Macdonald of the Centrist Party.

The smoke-filled back rooms of American politics feel the winds of change as the Centrists won enough seats in the Senate and House to create a three party system, with no single party holding a majority. They and President Macdonald were focused on financial and social renewal. However, the nuclear bombing of an American city and a diabolical foreign plot to strip the US dollar to third-world status forces Macdonald to put on his poker face and set up an international bluff that has to work.

Rude Awakenings is resplendent in vivid characters, compelling relationships, and

financial, military, and Intelligence strategies. The story will invoke your courage, sense of romance, and fervor for outwitting the bad guys.

Keith’s passions have always been in the performing arts and writing. A graduate in drama and broadcasting, he
worked in production at NBC for seventeen years and then freelanced four years in advertising as a writer-producer of radio and television commercials. He later formed his own advertising agency, which he ran for twelve years in Washington, DC. He studied playwriting and became involved in Washington theater for over a decade—writing over a dozen one-act and full-length plays, acting, and directing. He now lives in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, where he continues to write fiction, while being involved in all phases of theater in his art-rich community.

Pint-Sized Patriots:
Coloring and Activity Book

By Cody Jackson

This coloring and activity book is chock full of fun facts and activities to help kids learn about being a patriot! Cody’s story is inspiring, and so is the story of our country! Explore pages for coloring, crossword puzzles, and fun facts as you find out why America is one of the best countries in the world!

Cody Jackson is a pint-sized patriot and the One Boy USO, who, at the age of nine, has already thanked 10,000+ of our country's heroes.

It all began when Cody was four, with a simple question: “Why is it so hard to get on a plane?” Ever since the moment that his parents explained, as well as possible, the events of 9/11, Cody has been a new boy. Every day, he goes out of his way to thank our military men and women. He began by going to airports and greeting incoming service men and women. Then, as a way to thank more “soldiers” more often, Cody began collecting donations to help fund care packages to ship to deployed troops.

After noticing the lack of patriotism in his peers, Cody wanted to let other kids know “It’s okay to be patriotic! If I can do it, you can too!” He has written his patriotic children’s books to share his love of America and her military, and hopes to help other children love their country and troops as much as he does!

A portion of all sales of Cody’s books will go toward his efforts as the One Boy USO at OneBoyUSO.com.
