ck and Stella January met while they were in college and have enjoyed over 40 years of marriage, raising children, making a home, and pursuing professional and personal careers.
Rick was raised in a small town in Kansas as the middle of five children in a lower class household. Between his immediate family and a very large extended family from both parents, he developed strong family and moral values. His love of nature and science led him to pursue a career in chemistry, and he has spent close to 40 years as a chemist in a variety of industries. Although writing has always been a part of Rick's professional career, it is only in the last few years that he has tried his hand at writing children's stories. When not writing stories or working as a chemist, Rick likes to participate in racing and performance driving events as a driver or a worker/volunteer.
Stella was a middle child of four girls and one boy whose father instilled strong moral and religious values on her and her siblings. Raised on a farm in Southwest Kansas, Stella was driving tractors and working in the fields before she left the one room schoolhouse that served as her elementary school. She met Rick at the community college they were both attending, and they married two years later. After Rick graduated and got his first job, Stella set about the task of becoming a homemaker and mother, devoting her life to their two children, volunteering, or working part-time at the schools they attended. The talents she displayed for management proved economically useful in later years as she worked to help pay college and the other expenses of getting the children educated.
Once the children were grown, Stella was able to return to her love of arts and crafts, as well as her life-long love of gardening, which both proved to be a source of inspiration for Rick's writing. His first children's book, "Come Out to the Garden" as well as several other story ideas Rick hopes to develop and publish have come from Stella who has recently added another notch to her talent belt by doing the illustrations for the book.
